THE GIFT OF GIVING
”Next time you are giving to someone, notice where that “giving” is coming from. Consider whether it is coming from an abundant overflow from your heart or a place of lack deep inside that is calling for your attention. Is there a lure dangling from the end of the line that you have cast so far outside of yourself? What are you are fishing for? Does your self-worth depend on how others receive it or what response they demonstrate?
If this act of giving—whether it be a gift, a donation, or an action—stems from a hidden place where neediness and lack reside, the repercussion of deficit will ensue. The act of giving from scarcity can leave you feeling deficient and empty, followed by the need to fill that feeling of emptiness of the void within. This magnifies the sense of insufficiency, which further fosters the need to seek an external source of fulfillment. This cycle thus creates a ceaseless loop of giving from the place of lack that continues to seek validation and approval. This casting out of your line to fish for consent and ratification may give you a fleeting sense of security, but continues to authorize your sense of deprivation.
Giving from an overflow of love, from genuine gratitude and abundance, will result in a fulfillment that is not contingent on whether you get something back in that moment or from that particular person.
Let us look at the phenomenon of tithing or donating to a cause. Notice if your “giving” derives from guilt that you “should” give or else you may not be given to at a time of your genuine need, or if it is about looking good in the eyes of others. The source of this energy is amplified and feeds the belief of guilt and lack.
To give from a place of generosity, from your loving spirit, no matter how much you give with no strings attached, astonishingly creates a path of abundance that flows back to you. Our ego has already determined that the more you give, the less you are left with, but your heart does not quantify the expression of love in this way. It knows that the more you give from this place of love and abundance, the more it is returned in a myriad of ways, unexpected and unfathomed.
Giving from the seed of this true giving acknowledges your abundance and gratitude for all that you receive and share from the richness of your spirit. This is where “Good Karma”—your bank of goodwill—creates a positive feedback loop that spans throughout time and space and lifetimes, propagating true goodwill for self and others in kind.
This is a truth that many of us are far from understanding as a generative whole. If we shift the dial of intention and perception from lack to abundance, we can open to the unlimited treasures that await. ”

The next time you offer something or do a good deed for someone, take a moment to see where the impetus of that giving is coming from. Is it coming from a place of lack where you may expect an outcome for your own personal need, or is it stemming from an abundant overflow that is set free once you have given it?
